Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani has confirmed that the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin is secure following an explosion caused by a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED). After the detonation, which occurred when a vehicle engine was started, police Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams swept the site and found no further threats.
One individual was injured during the blast and is currently receiving medical care in stable condition. Commissioner Tijani dismissed rumors of widespread instability in the state, urging the public to return to their normal routines while forensic experts analyze the device remnants.
The Baale of the Oke Mushin community, Tajudeen Faronbi, noted that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday. Local authorities were alerted immediately, leading to the deployment of approximately 35 police officers to cordon off the area and maintain public order. The origin and ownership of the vehicle involved remain under investigation as authorities continue to monitor the scene.
