A middle-aged woman named Affiong Peters lost her life on Saturday night in Calabar, Cross River State, after collapsing immediately after leaving a public transport bus. The event took place near Edgerly on William George Street around 11:30pm.
Okon John, the driver of the mini-bus, reported the situation to the Atakpa Police Station. ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the police spokesperson, explained that Mrs. Peters became unresponsive right after stepping out of the bus with seven other passengers. Witnesses placed her back into the vehicle and rushed her to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
Medical professionals attempted to save her, but she was eventually declared dead. The police have notified her relatives and are arranging to have her body taken to the morgue. Authorities stated that there are no signs of foul play, and the case is being managed according to standard protocols. The sudden tragedy has deeply saddened the local community.
