The All Progressive Congress in Abia State has officially refuted reports suggesting that a non-member was granted the party’s governorship ticket. This statement follows recent warnings from party figures Mezie Chiekwe Esiaga and Ndubuisi Eme, who cautioned that the party might face electoral failure unless the nomination was awarded to former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh.
Uche Aguoru, the Abia APC Publicity Secretary, addressed the media in Umuahia on Monday to clarify the situation. He insisted that the internal primary process was fair and entirely transparent. Aguoru confirmed that Eric Opah, the declared winner, is a long-standing member of the party and did not join through irregular means. Official figures show that Opah secured 125,977 votes, significantly surpassing Henry Ikoh, who received 5,905 votes.
Aguoru further claimed that the disgruntled members threatening to undermine the party’s performance in the 2027 elections are being manipulated by opposing political forces to create public embarrassment. He maintained that the Abia APC remains cohesive and ready for the upcoming elections, contrasting this with the internal fragmentation currently seen within the ruling Labour Party in the state.
