Public affairs analyst Itodo Vincent has cautioned against turning Nigeria’s security struggles into political tools as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. Vincent issued this warning on Monday in response to recent comments made by Fred Agbedi, the minority leader in the House of Representatives.
Agbedi had previously set a six-month deadline for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve the nation’s security crisis, even suggesting that political activities should be halted. These remarks drew mixed reactions from the public. Vincent characterized Agbedi’s stance as unproductive and misguided, noting that while security concerns are valid, political leaders should avoid leveraging them for partisan advantage.
Highlighting that Nigeria’s security issues existed long before the current administration, Vincent emphasized that solving these problems requires a unified approach involving the government, security forces, and various stakeholders. He labeled the ultimatum and the implied call for resignation as reckless, arguing that such rhetoric undermines the serious work needed to stabilize the country. Instead, he urged leaders to contribute constructive ideas and support ongoing efforts to improve national safety rather than engaging in political grandstanding.
