Peoples Democratic Party Sweeps Local Government Elections Across Adamawa

The PDP has claimed victory in 20 local government areas in Adamawa state, with final voting concluding in Numan as the party asserts its continued popularity.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured victories in all 20 local government areas of Adamawa State where electoral outcomes have been finalized. Currently, only the Numan local government area remains undecided, with voting scheduled to conclude today following a postponement from the initial June 13 election date.

This result is particularly noteworthy as the state administration is led by the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, political analysts note that election preparations were well underway before Governor Ahmadu Fintiri switched his affiliation from the PDP to the APC this past February. While many of the governor’s supporters moved to the APC, the incumbent council chairmen, who had secured nominations to run for second terms under the PDP banner, chose to remain with their original party.

Despite challenges from competing political groups, the PDP maintained its dominance throughout the polling process. Chief Maurice Vunobolki, the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 elections, lauded the successful candidates, characterizing the results as evidence of the PDP’s continued influence. The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) managed the logistics of the event and is now focused on finalizing the vote in Numan. Among the confirmed winners is Jibril Ibrahim Jimeta, who will lead the Yola North local government area.
