President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed the government’s resolve to work closely with traditional leaders to ensure national security and sustainable development, as stated by Information Minister Mohammed Idris in Jigawa State.

President Bola Tinubu has pledged to improve cooperation with traditional authorities to foster security, unity, and stability throughout Nigeria. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, shared this message at the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council held in Dutse, Jigawa State.

The President highlighted the vital function of these leaders in local governance and community mobilization. Minister Idris praised the Council, chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for their consistent dedication to regional stability. According to the Minister, lasting progress is impossible without a foundation of peace and national harmony.

Regarding national security, Idris stated that the government is optimizing coordination between the military and intelligence services to combat criminal elements effectively. The administration is also tackling the root causes of unrest, such as economic hardship and unemployment, through various sectors. Notable efforts include investments in agriculture, education, and major infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Furthermore, the government views the new Ministry of Livestock Development as a key tool for modernizing production and mitigating resource-based conflicts. Idris emphasized that traditional leaders are crucial allies in fighting misinformation and ensuring that government initiatives gain public support. The meeting concluded with expressions of sympathy for the loss of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a prominent national figure from Katsina State.
