Defence Minister Christopher Musa has stated that the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri, Borno State, were calculated attempts to prevent President Bola Tinubu from traveling to the United Kingdom. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Musa addressed the current state of national security and ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Musa noted that Nigeria has experienced a notable decline in explosive attacks compared to previous years when vehicle-borne and body-borne improvised explosive devices were common. He argued that current incidents are rare and often carry political motives. According to the Minister, the Maiduguri attacks were specifically orchestrated to weaken the President’s influence or force him to cancel his travel plans.
Describing these actions as regrettable, Musa urged citizens to avoid being manipulated by those seeking to destabilize the nation. He cautioned that failing to maintain national stability could lead to severe hardships, noting that refugees frequently face discrimination in foreign lands. Drawing from his time serving in war-torn regions like Sierra Leone and Liberia, the Minister emphasized that Nigerians must unite to curb violence and preserve their country.
