APC Official Warns of PDP Resurgence in Kwara if 2027 Primaries Lack Fairness

A Kwara APC chieftain, Uthman Alabi, warns that the party must ensure transparent primaries to avoid losing to the PDP in 2027, while stakeholders reject Senator Lola Ashiru’s third-term bid in favor of Dr. Muheebat Dankaka.

Internal APC Tensions Rise in Kwara South

Uthman Alabi, a prominent All Progressives Congress leader in Kwara State, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party could reclaim control of the region if the ruling party fails to manage transparent and credible primary elections for the 2027 polls. Speaking on behalf of the Kwara South APC Opinion Leaders, Alabi stressed the need to safeguard party unity and internal democracy.

Opposition to Senator Ashiru’s Third Term

The stakeholders publicly opposed the bid for a third Senate term by Senator Lola Ashiru, the Deputy Senate Leader, ahead of the primaries scheduled for May 18, 2026. Alabi warned that imposing unpopular figures might fracture the party and embolden political opponents. Instead, the group voiced strong support for Dr. Muheebat Dankaka, citing her successful tenure at the Federal Character Commission and her popularity within the district.

Calls for Transparent Procedures

The group emphasized that in the absence of a consensus, the party should conduct direct primaries. Alabi highlighted that the Kwara South district remains a strategic political stronghold, representing a significant portion of the state’s wards and local government areas. Furthermore, the stakeholders praised President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing national reforms while expressing concern over the incumbent senator’s shifting political ambitions, which have caused friction within the party structure.
