A 20-year-old University of Lagos student has testified in an Ikeja High Court regarding an alleged sexual assault by 53-year-old lecturer Samuel Obinna Ojogbo. The Lagos State Government is currently prosecuting Ojogbo on two charges related to rape and sexual assault.

During Wednesday’s proceedings before Justice Oyindamola Ogala, the student recounted how the incident unfolded on August 22, 2025.

She stated that the defendant had previously invited her to his office after an examination. When she arrived at his basement office the following day, she claimed he forced the door shut, pushed her onto a couch, and sexually assaulted her.

The witness detailed her efforts to seek justice, noting that she reported the event to a department lecturer, Dr. Abu, and her uncle. They collectively approached the Head of Department to address the situation. According to the student, the HOD dismissed her allegations by questioning the lack of physical evidence or audio recordings.

The student testified that when confronted, Ojogbo denied the claims. Subsequently, the HOD suggested that the student and her uncle simply drop the matter and warned her to be more cautious when alone with lecturers in the future. Despite this advice, her uncle insisted on pursuing the case.

The student proceeded to report the incident to the university’s Servicom office, which initiated medical examinations and provided treatment.

She eventually sought assistance from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, leading to police involvement. The witness also noted that the defendant’s acquaintances had contacted her family to attempt an out-of-court settlement. The trial is scheduled to resume on April 27, 2026, for cross-examination.
