Neville Urges caution Over Permanent Carrick Appointment at United

Manchester United icon Gary Neville has advised his former club against naming Michael Carrick as their permanent manager, despite the team’s significant turnaround under his leadership.

Since replacing Ruben Amorim in January, the 44-year-old Carrick has guided United to five wins in six league matches—including crucial victories over Arsenal and Manchester City—reigniting their Champions League aspirations.

Following a recent 1-0 win against Everton that moved the club into the top four, Neville spoke on Sky Sports, emphasizing that United must break the cycle of hiring inexperienced or sentimental candidates.

Drawing parallels to the tenure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Neville argued that the club should prioritize a “best-in-class” proven manager to minimize long-term risk, regardless of Carrick’s current success.
