Manchester United and Everton Battle for Leicester’s Ndidi in £9.5m Transfer Race
Premier League rivals Manchester United and Everton are leading the chase to sign Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi this summer, with the Nigerian international available for a cut-price £9.5m following the Foxes’ relegation from the top flight.
The 27-year-old defensive midfielder, who has been a key figure at Leicester since joining from Genk in 2017, has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for the reduced fee after the club’s drop to the Championship. According to talkSPORT, United are considering a move to bolster their midfield under new manager Ruben Amorim, while Everton, Crystal Palace, and Fulham are also monitoring the situation.
Ndidi, who has made over 300 appearances for Leicester and helped them win the FA Cup and Championship promotion, was once hailed as “one of the best midfielders in the Premier League” by former boss Brendan Rodgers. His physicality and ball-winning ability make him an attractive option for clubs seeking midfield reinforcement.
However, competition is heating up, with Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli also reportedly interested—though no formal talks have taken place yet. Last summer, Ndidi was close to leaving on a free transfer before signing a new three-year deal, which included the relegation release clause now in effect.
Meanwhile, Manchester United continue their squad overhaul, having already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves and submitting a £60m bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. Everton, looking to strengthen after a turbulent season, see Ndidi as a potential anchor for their midfield.
Leicester, who retain most of their squad for next season, appear resigned to losing Ndidi due to the clause. His departure would mark the end of an eight-year stint that saw him become a fan favorite at the King Power Stadium.
