Libyan Authorities Begin Repatriation Process for 18 Nigerians

Libyan authorities have relocated 18 undocumented Nigerian migrants from the Sirte Immigration Detention Center to the southern city of Sabha for repatriation.

The transfer, which took place on Monday, September 15, was supervised by the Libyan Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), according to a statement by humanitarian monitoring group Migrant Rescue Watch.

The migrants were moved in a security-controlled convoy as part of Libya’s efforts to return foreign nationals without legal status.

Libya remains a key departure point for migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. Its detention centers frequently hold large numbers of migrants awaiting deportation or voluntary return.

In recent years, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has collaborated with Libyan authorities to organize repatriation flights for those wishing to return to their home countries.
