The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially terminated the tenure of the Board of Directors at the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDC). This directive was outlined in an order issued on August 10, 2026, bearing the signatures of NERC Chairman Musliu Oseni and Commissioner Dafe Akpeneye.
A temporary seven-member leadership committee has been installed, featuring Dr. Abdullahi Garba, Engr. Francis U. Agoha, Mr. Aliyu E. Aliyu, Major General Henry E. Ayamasaowei (rtd.), Dr. Haliru Dikko, Mr. Ayodeji A. Gbeleyi from the Bureau of Public Enterprises, and Dr. Abubakar Umar Hashidu. Dr. Hashidu, who currently serves as the Managing Director and CEO, will also act as the Administrator for a six-month probationary period, which the Commission may review.
This intervention follows persistent failures by KAEDC, including ongoing market defaults, lack of sufficient investment, and poor operational results. NERC noted that the company struggled with high liabilities and failed to provide a viable plan for financial recovery. Under the authority granted by Section 75 of the Electricity Act, the commission has effectively removed all previous directors.
To enforce this transition, NERC has alerted the Corporate Affairs Commission and other interested parties. No modifications to company ownership or board structure will be permitted during this period without formal authorization from the regulator.
