The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned suspected hired assassin, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, before the Ogba Magistrate Court on Tuesday, on 11 counts bordering on murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and conspiracy to commit felony.

Akinwande, described by police as the “most wanted, vicious, and notorious hired killer” in Lagos, was apprehended in a covert operation dubbed ‘Silence, Speed, and Surprise’, conducted by the Command’s Tactical Squad. He was tracked to his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, after evading multiple capture attempts.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement that Akinwande had long been a menace, instilling fear across Mushin and neighboring communities through a series of brutal killings. He was finally captured following a months-long surveillance operation.

During his arrest, police recovered a cache of arms and other incriminating items from his residence, which Akinwande reportedly confessed were tools for his gang’s assassination operations.

He is facing multiple charges, including the alleged murders of Bankole Yusuf and Ramadan Yusuf, who were killed on July 31, 2024, in Mushin. He is also accused of the cold-blooded murder of 10-year-old Aminat Lateef, who was sent on an errand in the Fadeyi area of Lagos on December 9, 2010.

Recovered Evidence:

Firearms

Ammunition

Assorted weapons used in gang operations

Various items linking him to multiple crime scenes.

Hundeyin reaffirmed that the Lagos Police Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and will relentlessly pursue fugitives, no matter how long they have evaded justice.

The case has since been adjourned, with further proceedings expected in the coming weeks as investigations continue into Akinwande’s links to other unresolved killings across Lagos and Ogun states.

His arraignment marks a significant breakthrough in the Command’s intensified crackdown on hired assassins and gang-related violence in Lagos.
