Six Apprehended in Benue for Vandalizing Power Infrastructure
The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken six individuals into custody following the alleged theft and destruction of PHCN/TCN cables.
The arrests took place at Apir, located across from the NNPC Depot, through a joint operation involving NSCDC officers and local youths from the Apir community.
The suspects identified include the alleged ringleader, Shiaondo David Iorshenge, along with Terungwa Asombo, Nomyar Bemdoo, Tyoakura Apino Christopher, Terhemba Iortuhwa Victor, and Musa Abdullahi.
These arrests align with the directives of State Commandant Bitrus, who had previously warned against seasonal spikes in crime targeting essential national infrastructure. To safeguard these assets during the holidays, the Commandant stationed 1,780 personnel throughout Benue’s 23 Local Government Areas.
Praising the successful intervention, Bitrus emphasized that the protection of state infrastructure is a top priority and urged residents to remain vigilant. The suspects are currently under investigation and will face prosecution in court.2
