Luis Diaz Completes £65.5m Move To Bayern Munich, Pens Emotional Farewell To Liverpool
Luis Diaz has officially joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in a £65.5 million move from Liverpool, marking the end of a memorable chapter for the Colombian winger at Anfield.
Diaz, who completed his medical in Bavaria on Tuesday, departs the Reds after Bayern’s improved bid—an offer including add-ons—was accepted following a previously rejected £58.5m proposal. The final figure, according to Liverpool, reflects his full market value.
Since arriving from Porto in January 2022 for £37m, Diaz made 148 appearances and scored 41 goals, collecting four major trophies including the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup. His final season was his most prolific, netting 17 times as Liverpool reclaimed the league title.
In a heartfelt Instagram message, Diaz expressed pride in his achievements and gratitude to teammates, coaches, and fans. However, he admitted his departure was shadowed by the tragic death of teammate Diogo Jota earlier this month.
“It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way,” he wrote. “I carry everyone with me in my heart, but one of them in particular: Diogo. I will never forget him.”
Diaz’s sale pushes Liverpool’s summer outgoings to approximately £115m, aiding the club’s hefty £270m spending spree on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez. The Reds are also reportedly still in pursuit of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
