Vigilante, Two Others Arrested for Theft and Drug Possession in Niger State
The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a vigilante, Shuaibu Rabiu, along with two accomplices, for alleged conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, July 29, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrests followed a burglary report filed on July 17 at Maje Division, Kaduna Road. The complaint detailed a break-in where a power generator, an unregistered Jincheng motorcycle, and various other items were stolen.
The stolen generator was later traced to the room of a neighbor, identified as Baban-Rimi, who is currently at large. The item was recovered after his guardian forcibly opened the room.
Investigations led to the arrest of 26-year-old Shuaibu Rabiu of Hayi-Kaduna, identified as a local vigilante member; 24-year-old Shamsudeen Isah of Deidei, FCT; and Ahmad Hussain, also of Deidei, Abuja. Rabiu allegedly collaborated with the gang and named Shamsudeen as a fellow member. Ahmad Hussain was arrested as the suspected buyer of stolen goods.
The suspects reportedly confessed to other break-ins and implicated additional receivers, including individuals identified as Buhari Jaguar and Dan-Boko.
Recovered items include one power generator, 30 mobile phones, eight SIM cards, two solar batteries, 145 wraps of cannabis, 10 bottles of codeine syrup, face masks, and other assorted items.
SP Abiodun confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to arrest remaining suspects and recover more stolen property.
