TomTom Cuts 300 Jobs Amid Shift Toward AI and Financial Realignment
Dutch navigation technology firm TomTom announced on Monday that it will slash 300 jobs around 10% of its global workforce as part of a strategic overhaul aimed at reducing financial losses and pivoting more aggressively toward artificial intelligence.
The Amsterdam-headquartered company, once a trailblazer in digital car navigation, has seen declining relevance in a world where smartphones dominate route-finding needs. Now, TomTom says it is “realigning its organisation” to adapt to the evolving tech landscape.
The job cuts will affect employees working in the company’s application layer units, as well as those in sales and support roles, according to a company statement.
Currently, TomTom employs approximately 3,600 staff worldwide.
The restructuring comes as TomTom braces for a revenue dip, with projected earnings for 2025 falling to between €505 million and €565 million down from €574 million in 2024.
In an April update to investors, CEO Harold Goddijn pointed to increased global trade uncertainties partly driven by tariffs under U.S. President Donald Trump as factors clouding the company’s short-term outlook. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in TomTom’s long-term direction.
