Former MLB Star John Rocker Sparks Outrage Over Anti-LGBTQ Comments Amid Pride Support Push
Former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker has reignited controversy after publicly criticizing Major League Baseball (MLB) for its support of LGBTQ+ rights during Pride Month.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Rocker wrote:
“MLB needs to stop the gay sh*t. Baseball fans want a show, not a lecture.”
His comment follows recent backlash over several Pride Month activities around the league, including:
-
The New York Mets replacing the American flag with the rainbow Pride flag during the national anthem;
-
Los Angeles Dodgers players wearing Pride-themed hats, which prompted at least one player to respond with a religious message;
-
The Boston Red Sox hosting a pre-game drag show, which drew polarized reactions from fans.
While Rocker has long been a controversial figure—best known for his racist and homophobic remarks in a 1999 Sports Illustrated interview—his latest comments have earned him both praise and criticism online.

Supporters argue he’s defending traditional values, while critics say his statements reinforce harmful stereotypes and intolerance.
MLB has yet to respond officially to Rocker’s remarks.
