Mbappé Sues PSG for €55 Million, Alleges ‘Moral Harassment’ Over Contract Dispute
French football star Kylian Mbappé has taken legal action against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), seeking €55 million in unpaid wages and accusing the Ligue 1 champions of “moral harassment” during the final months of his tenure.
The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed receipt of the lawsuit on Thursday, marking a new chapter in the already contentious split between the forward and the Qatari-owned club. Now a Real Madrid player, Mbappé alleges PSG deliberately sidelined him and subjected him to punitive treatment after he refused to extend his contract in 2023.
Central to the suit is the accusation of “lofting”, a controversial French football practice where players are ostracized from the main team setup. Mbappé was excluded from PSG’s pre-season tour to Japan and South Korea, relegated to train with fringe players, and benched for the club’s opening Ligue 1 game of the 2023–24 season. He was only reinstated after crisis talks with the club’s hierarchy.
Mbappé, who eventually joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer, left PSG as the club’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals. Yet his final year was marred by rising tensions, failed promises, and public backlash including being booed during his farewell game at Parc des Princes.
In 2022, PSG had unveiled him to much fanfare with a jersey marked “2025,” but the actual contract only extended through 2024, with an optional one-year extension Mbappé chose not to activate. This set off a summer of speculation, failed negotiations, and a rejected €300 million bid from Saudi side Al-Hilal.
Mbappé’s camp first signaled intentions to sue in April 2025, citing mistreatment and financial breaches. Thursday’s lawsuit now makes those claims official, as he seeks to recover what he says is owed to him and to hold the club accountable for what he calls a deliberate campaign of intimidation.
Meanwhile, PSG managed to win the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history — notably, without Mbappé on the pitch.
