A senior lecturer at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Dr. Vincent Paul, has called on unemployed graduates across Nigeria to stop waiting on white-collar jobs and start investing in practical skills that can create sustainable livelihoods. Speaking at the inauguration of the university’s Alumni National Executive Council and Trust Fund in Lafia on Wednesday, Paul challenged young Nigerians to rethink what it means to be “job-ready” in today’s economy. “The truth is, waiting endlessly for government or corporate jobs isn’t a viable plan anymore,” he said. “The jobs may never come — but your ability to generate income through your own skills can change your life trajectory.”

He urged political leaders to support young people through regular skill acquisition programmes, saying this would not only foster self-reliance and financial independence but also contribute to national development. “Skills have turned many people into employers of labour. stepdaughter anton-forrester You can earn while you wait  and often, you won’t need to wait anymore,” he added

Dr. Paul also charged the newly inaugurated NSUK Alumni executives to use their positions and the newly launched Trust Fund to build lasting impact. He stressed the importance of financial sustainability and championing entrepreneurial initiatives that will uplift disadvantaged members of the association. “Strong financial footing is key. We must not only relive our shared memories but turn them into shared responsibility — to preserve our legacy and empower the next generation,” he said. In his acceptance remarks, the newly elected National President of the association, Nuhu Egya, thanked members for their trust and promised to raise the association’s profile through purposeful leadership and inclusive development.
