The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two main suspects linked to the brutal murder and burning of a young woman on May 24, 2025, near the canal behind Mile 12 Market in Gangare area, Lagos.

In a statement released on Monday, May 26, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the victim, originally from Nasarawa State, was assaulted and set on fire in what police described as a premeditated attack orchestrated by her estranged boyfriend and his accomplices.

The police rejected widespread claims that the woman was targeted over blasphemy.

Hundeyin said: “Facts from preliminary investigations clearly revealed that she was from Nasarawa State and not a Yoruba woman.

“The protracted problem between her and her boyfriend, now at large, who tried to forcefully rekindle their relationship, led to the conspiracy.

“The boyfriend, along with other suspects, two of whom are now in custody, planned and executed the attack.”

According to CSP Hundeyin, the investigation has been intensified to track down the estranged boyfriend and other suspects who are still at large.

He mentioned that the arrested suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are assisting detectives and investigators in efforts to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the murder.
