Reasons United Can’t Sign Osimhen

Manchester United is reportedly not considering Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for their summer transfer targets due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which were introduced in the 2015/16 season to prevent clubs from overspending. These rules limit clubs to losing no more than £105m over a three-year period, with penalties for breaches. Everton, for example, was penalized with a 10-point deduction for excessive spending last year, though the penalty was reduced to six points after an appeal.

While Osimhen appears to be an ideal solution to United’s goal-scoring issues, their primary target is Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the club willing to activate his £62.5m release clause. However, if Osimhen were considered a better fit alongside Cunha, the club would need to pay £51m for the striker. But Osimhen’s wage demands may complicate the deal, requiring Manchester United to cut its wage bill in order to accommodate such a high-profile signing.

While reports had indicated that 26-year-old Victor Osimhen had agreed to join Manchester United in the summer with a lucrative €20m-per-year offer on the table, it seems that United’s plans may be changing. Despite the substantial financial offer, it is now reported that the club is not keen on signing Osimhen. This shift in interest could be linked to concerns over wage demands and the club’s financial situation, particularly under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, which restrict clubs from overspending.

“If Manchester United are to look at others, I’m assured it will not be Victor Osimhen. Despite reports you might be reading, he is not on the agenda for Manchester United. They will have other options because they might have to turn to them, or they stick with internal solutions such as Rasmus Hojlund, and they focus on other positions.

As a result, Manchester United’s pursuit of Osimhen may be shelved, with other transfer priorities potentially taking precedence for the upcoming summer window.
