Rotary Club of Omole Golden Donates ICT LAB to Ajuwon High School
The Rotary Club of Omole Golden has inaugurated a solar-powered Information Communication Technology laboratory for Ajuwon Junior Secondary School, Lagos.
The club president, Mr. Jide Ogunleye, said the project aimed to bridge the technological gap of students.
He said, “For years, the junior school never had an ICT laboratory. A couple of years back, we donated an ICT lab to the school, but unknown to us, it was only accessible to the senior secondary students.
“This left the junior students without access to technology. We made a promise to address this, and today, we are here to fulfil that commitment,” he said.
He said the new ICT laboratory is equipped with solar power to ensure its sustainability.
Mr. Jide Ogunleye urged the government to collaborate more with organisations like Rotary to facilitate such developmental projects.
“For several months, this project was delayed due to a lack of timely approval, which increased costs. What should have cost N5m in May ended up costing N8m by September due to inflation.
“The government should streamline approval processes to make it easier for organisations like ours to deliver impact,” he stated.
According to Mr. Jide Ogunleye, the Rotary Club’s motivation stems from the desire to transform lives.
“The joy and smiles on the faces of these children, knowing that they now have an opportunity to dream bigger, is what drives us. Without interventions like this, many of them would not have access to the digital world,” he said.
He added, “Funding for the project came from a combination of district grants and donations from club members and friends of Rotary who are dedicated to community service.
“To ensure the longevity of the project, the club has implemented a sustainability plan.
“We have a monitoring and evaluation team that reviews all projects we have done. If you look around this premises, you will see many other Rotary projects from the last ten years that are still functional. The ICT lab we donated six years ago is still in use because we don’t abandon our projects. We continually review and maintain them.”
District Governor of District 9111 (2024-2025), Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, praised the initiative, stating, “I am so glad to be here today. Rotary affects communities all over the world, and this project is another testament to that. By providing this facility, we are not just giving these students a laboratory; we are giving them a future. Technology plays a vital role in today’s world, and I am delighted that Rotary is bringing it to this school.”
Similarly, the Principal of Ajuwon Secondary School, Mr Ajibola Tijani, expressed gratitude for the donation.
“The development of this fully-equipped computer laboratory is a significant milestone for our school. It will provide students with access to cutting-edge technology, equipping them with essential skills in computer literacy, programming, and digital citizenship. This gift is more than just a donation, it is an investment in the future of our students,” he said.
