34 University of Abuja Faculty Members Advance to Professorial Positions

The University of Abuja has promoted 34 academic staff members to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor, effective October 2025.

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, currently recognized as Yakubu Gowon University, has elevated 34 faculty members to professorial status. This decision was finalized during the 101st Regular Meeting of the Council, which took place from July 10 to July 11, 2026, under the direction of Chairman Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso.

Of those promoted, 17 staff members attained the rank of Professor, while 17 were named Associate Professors. These advancements, which are retroactive to October 2025, were based on positive external evaluations of the candidates’ research contributions. The promotions span a diverse range of departments, including Physics, Engineering, Community Medicine, Accounting, and Crop Science.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi praised the faculty for their dedication to academic growth. He emphasized that the university remains committed to refining its internal procedures to ensure that high-performing scholars are recognized promptly. Fawehinmi also encouraged the newly promoted staff to treat their new titles as a mandate for increased contributions to their fields and the wider community.
