Zambian Vice President Mutale Nalumango Unharmed Following Helicopter Crash

Zambia’s Vice President Mutale Nalumango and seven others are safe after their helicopter crashed while departing a campaign event in Nakonde.

Zambia’s Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, escaped without injury after her helicopter went down shortly after takeoff on Thursday. The incident occurred in Nakonde, a town in the northeastern part of the country, as Nalumango and her team departed a campaign rally.

Nalumango, 71, reported that the aircraft descended only moments after becoming airborne. All eight individuals on board survived the crash, though the helicopter sustained significant damage. Images circulating online depict the wrecked air force vehicle lying on its side against a tree.

Following the accident, the vice president received a standard medical evaluation and was cleared by officials, confirming she is in good health. This event took place amidst active campaigning for the upcoming national elections scheduled for August 13. Current President Hakainde Hichilema is the favored candidate to secure another term in the copper-rich African nation.
