Yobe Police Apprehend Two Suspected Kidnappers and Cattle Rustlers

Yobe State police have arrested two suspects for alleged roles in kidnapping, armed robbery, and cattle rustling, with one individual posing as an insurgent to extort local herders.

Law enforcement officers in Yobe State have successfully detained two individuals accused of involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, and cattle rustling. The arrests were confirmed on Thursday by the state police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.

On July 15, 2026, the Violent Crime Response Unit took 19-year-old Kollo Kashim into custody. Investigations indicate that Kashim and two accomplices, who remain fugitives, posed as Boko Haram militants to intimidate local herders. By using a fake wooden firearm and documents with Arabic text, the group extorted N253,000 from four victims. Police recovered the makeshift weapon, the document, and N36,000 in cash during the arrest.

In a secondary operation, authorities captured 22-year-old Hussaini Umar with a fabricated revolver. Umar admitted to participating in a wider criminal organization responsible for multiple abductions and livestock theft in Wase, Plateau State. He has since been transferred to Plateau State police custody to assist with ongoing investigations and the pursuit of his associates.
