Glory Wobo, who leads the OK Chinda support network known as Our Will, recently discussed the pressing need for effective leadership in Rivers State. He emphasized that the upcoming gubernatorial election is a pivotal moment for the region’s future. During the tenure of former governor Nyesom Wike, the state saw significant infrastructural growth and became a model for others. However, Wobo noted that the state has suffered from political volatility over the last three years, marked by frequent friction between executive and legislative leaders. Even a state of emergency imposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu failed to resolve these internal conflicts.
Wobo argued that Rivers State urgently requires a leader capable of fostering harmony among political stakeholders and lawmakers. He pointed to Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as the ideal candidate for this role. While acknowledging Chinda shares an ethnic background with the former governor, Wobo insisted that competence must supersede ethnic considerations. He highlighted Chinda’s dual experience as both a former state commissioner and a veteran federal legislator as essential qualifications for navigating the current political climate. According to Wobo, Chinda is uniquely positioned to reconcile opposing interests and restore administrative stability.
Regarding the Rainbow Coalition and the recent senatorial bye-election victory of Senator Olaka Nwogu, Wobo described the current political environment as highly complex. He suggested that the coalition’s success indicates a strategic approach to governance and office-holding. He concluded that Chinda’s proven track record, including the decision of other aspirants to step down in his favor during primaries, proves his widespread acceptability across party lines.
