The Abia State Police Command has officially inaugurated CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi as the state’s 35th Commissioner of Police. He succeeds AIG Danladi Isa, who has transitioned to a new role at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Kaduna.
According to DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Command’s spokesperson, Afolabi brings over thirty years of law enforcement experience to the role. Joining the force in May 1992, he has built an extensive portfolio spanning operational, administrative, and international policing assignments.
Afolabi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from the University of Ilorin, alongside advanced qualifications in Peace and Security Studies from the University of Port Harcourt. His training credentials include prestigious programs at the National Institute of Police Studies in Abuja and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Ghana.
His career is marked by significant international contributions, including service with the African Union Mission in Sudan and the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Domestically, he has held leadership positions across various states, including roles as Commissioner of Police in Ondo and oversight positions in Delta, Katsina, and Bayelsa states. The Abia State Police Command has urged the public and community leaders to support the new commissioner in his mission to enhance local security.
