Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has corrected a story told by his former Leicester City teammate Jamie Vardy regarding the supposed use of magic ointment. Vardy previously claimed that Ndidi and fellow Nigerian teammate Kelechi Iheanacho regularly returned from trips home with a special cream from a witch doctor to treat injuries.
In an Instagram video posted on Monday, Ndidi clarified that the substance was simply ori, a traditional Nigerian shea butter. He explained that telling teammates the cream came from a witch doctor was merely a running joke among the players. Ndidi noted that they often teased Vardy, suggesting that if he used the butter himself, he would score more frequently, though Vardy always declined the offer.
Vardy first brought up the anecdote on his podcast, Jamie Vardy’s Having a Party, stating that the pair insisted only that specific product be used by the club’s massage therapists. The trio played together at Leicester City from 2017 to 2024, a successful era that included victories in the FA Cup and Community Shield.
