Washington DC Reflecting Pool to be Drained as Trump Blames Vandals for Ongoing Issues

Officials are set to drain the Washington DC Reflecting Pool after President Trump blamed vandals for algae growth and paint damage that surfaced shortly after a costly renovation.

The Reflecting Pool in Washington DC is scheduled to be emptied following reports of vibrant green algae and peeling paint. These complications emerged shortly after the site underwent an expensive multi-million dollar renovation. President Donald Trump has repeatedly attributed these problems to acts of vandalism.

Trump alleged that the structure sustained a significant gash and suggested that outside parties introduced fertilizer into the water to encourage algae growth. When challenged by CBS News regarding evidence for the purported damage, the president stated that proof would be presented in a legal setting. According to US Park Police, five individuals have been arrested for vandalism, and five others have received federal citations.

DC Water authorities confirmed on Monday that they have issued a permit to drain the landmark. The contractor responsible for the initial project intends to rectify the issues under the existing warranty. This renovation was recently completed in April, with the pool refilled only this month. Despite the efforts, the site continues to struggle with persistent leaks and structural degradation.

The president has publicly threatened severe legal consequences for those responsible for the damage, citing potential ten-year prison sentences. Additionally, Trump has indicated plans to sue ABC News, alleging the network provided inaccurate coverage regarding the project. He defended the $16 million investment, claiming the repairs were extensive and far more complex than originally projected.
