Wales is set to begin a challenging road campaign as part of the Nations Championship, with players departing soon for fixtures against Argentina and South Africa. Following a strong 39-24 win over Fiji at Cardiff City Stadium, Steve Tandy’s 33-man roster faces a demanding travel schedule covering over 12,000 miles.
The team will fly 7,000 miles to Buenos Aires for initial preparations. A shorter flight follows for a match in San Juan against Felipe Contepomi’s Argentina, who recently lost to Scotland. The tour concludes with a 5,300-mile journey to Durban to challenge reigning world champions South Africa on 18 July.
Coach Steve Tandy acknowledged the logistical hurdles but emphasized that the squad remains focused. With limited training time and fragmented flight arrivals, the team expects to maximize their preparation in each location. Tandy also highlighted the importance of this tour for team cohesion and gaining experience ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Australia.
Despite the recent momentum from their victory against Fiji, the coaching staff remains grounded. Tandy noted that these touring experiences are vital for helping players bond and adapt to different international environments, noting that the squad will rotate to manage the physical toll of the upcoming games.
