US and Iran Set for Indirect Technical Discussions in Doha

US and Iranian officials are meeting in Doha for indirect technical talks to solidify a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the Middle East war.

Diplomatic sources indicate that representatives from the United States and Iran are scheduled to engage in indirect technical discussions on Wednesday in Doha. These talks, facilitated by mediators from Qatar and Pakistan, focus on a memorandum of understanding intended to conclude the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

This initiative follows the recent Lake Lucerne Summit, where significant progress was made. The resulting agreement includes a 60-day ceasefire, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a roadmap for resolving the conflict alongside discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities. The ceasefire follows hostilities that began with US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

While US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff held preliminary meetings with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Tuesday, they will not participate in the Wednesday technical sessions. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi is leading his country’s delegation. Despite President Donald Trump’s assertion regarding potential direct dialogue, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei clarified that no direct negotiations with American officials are scheduled.
