On Monday, the Gero community in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State became the site of intense protests following the discovery of two women who had been killed by unknown assailants. The bodies were found early that morning near the local government secretariat, inciting significant anger among local residents.
Seeking accountability, a group of youths and women transported the victims to the council headquarters to demonstrate. The protest turned destructive as participants damaged parts of the secretariat building, including window panes. Reports also emerged indicating that a police officer was assaulted during the commotion.
Local witnesses, including resident Mary Chollom, expressed deep frustration over the ongoing insecurity in Plateau State. Chollom called on federal and state authorities to enhance security measures, increase patrols, and apprehend the individuals responsible for the violence. She noted that constant attacks have left families living in a state of perpetual fear.
By Monday afternoon, security forces had established a presence around the secretariat to stabilize the area. While investigations into the killings and the subsequent protest continue, official confirmation from law enforcement regarding the details of the attack remained unavailable.
