Amra Salihu, a student in her final year of law at the University of Abuja, has secured first place at the 9th Inter-Universities Speech Contest. This event, hosted by the Intergovernmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), took place on July 22 in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
As confirmed by the university’s Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Habib Yakoob, Salihu qualified for the regional competition by winning a national selection process managed by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU). She outperformed participants from The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana to earn the top honor.
For her victory, Salihu was awarded a certificate of honor, a plaque, and 1,000 U.S. dollars. She was accompanied by a fellow law student, Abah Goodness, who attended as an observer. The team received preparation and technical guidance from Dr. Nasiru Mukhtar of the University of Abuja Law Clinic and J.R. Gogol from the NFIU.
Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, praised the students for their success. He noted that the achievement enhances the school’s global reputation and expressed his appreciation to the faculty and clinic staff for their dedicated mentorship.
