UK Councillor Resigns After Saying Charlie Kirk “Brought Assassination on Himself”
A British councillor has resigned after facing backlash for saying Charlie Kirk “made himself a target” and “brought his assassination upon himself.”
Kirk, a married father of two, was shot in the neck while speaking about mass shootings at a Utah university on Wednesday. The suspect remains at large as police continue a manhunt.

Fiona Wild, an independent councillor in Burnley, caused outrage when she posted: “I don’t condone violence, but I do think he made himself a target and brought this on himself so good riddance to not a very nice man! America needs to get rid of the other t*t now.”

After public calls for her resignation, Burnley Council confirmed Thursday that Wild has stepped down.
“Ms Wild was serving as an independent councillor at the time of her resignation, and therefore was not affiliated with any political party group within Burnley Council,” the statement read.
Council leader Jamie McGowan, who had demanded her immediate resignation, condemned her remarks as “vile.”
“She seems to forget that two small children woke up without their dad this morning because of nothing more than his political beliefs,” McGowan said. “It’s a disgusting thing to say, which shows a nasty side I didn’t know she had.”
Upon her resignation, McGowan remarked, “All I can say is, good riddance to a not very nice woman.”
