Tyrone manager Malachy O’Rourke has expressed frustration over several officiating decisions during his team’s 1-24 to 0-25 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat against Kerry. Despite a strong second-half performance that nearly secured a semi-final berth, O’Rourke felt that pivotal moments in the match were unfairly handled by the referees.
Speaking to BBC Sport NI, O’Rourke noted that some calls appeared remarkably harsh, even suggesting that opposing players momentarily stopped playing during one instance due to the apparent nature of the foul. While he emphasized he did not wish to attack the officials, he maintained that his team received a difficult hand in a game defined by narrow margins. He acknowledged that his perspective might change upon reviewing the game footage.
Reflecting on the match, O’Rourke noted that while Tyrone struggled in the first half—particularly regarding kick-outs and ball possession—his squad improved their urgency after the break. He stated that he was not surprised by the competitive nature of his team, even though they entered the contest as heavy underdogs. The manager also addressed the absence of the Canavan brothers, Ruairi and Darragh, noting that their unavailability due to long-term injuries significantly impacted his options for refreshing the forward line in a tight contest.
