Tinubu Vows Judicial Budget Remains Secure Despite Housing Initiatives

President Bola Tinubu has assured that housing projects for judges will not compromise judicial budgets or influence, arguing that comfortable living conditions are essential for maintaining an independent judiciary.

President Bola Tinubu has moved to clear up concerns regarding judicial autonomy, confirming that the judiciary’s budget remains untouched and separate from new infrastructure programs. Represented by Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, the President spoke at the opening of 20 residential units for High Court judges in Katampe.

Addressing claims that providing housing for judges constitutes an attempt to manipulate them, Tinubu dismissed such suggestions. He noted that similar investments in Nigerian Law School faculty did not face accusations of corruption. The President clarified that these housing projects are intended as interventions to improve welfare, not as leverage to influence legal decisions.

Tinubu argued that providing a secure environment is essential for judicial independence. By relieving judges of basic housing anxieties, the government aims to foster a space where they can perform their duties with integrity and focus. Ultimately, the administration views these facilities as a commitment to protecting the dignity and security of the judiciary.
