TCN, Kano Government Resolve Land Dispute, Clear Path for 330kV Transmission Line Completion
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Kano State Government have reached a breakthrough in resolving a longstanding legal conflict that had delayed the completion of the Kumbotso–Rimin Zakara 330kV transmission line.
The impasse, rooted in disputes over land ownership and compensation, was addressed during a high-level meeting convened on July 21, 2025, by the Kano State Ministry of Land and Physical Planning. The agreement is expected to remove all legal roadblocks and accelerate the project’s final stages.
According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the deal includes compensation for individuals with ongoing court cases and provision of alternative land for others affected.
“This resolution marks a critical milestone for both the TCN and Kano State in our effort to bolster electricity supply and drive industrial growth in the North,” Mbah noted.
With litigation issues now resolved, TCN expressed confidence that work on the 330kV transmission line will proceed without further delay. The project is set to improve power transmission capacity and strengthen the national grid in the region.
Separately, TCN reported that a suspected vandal died while attempting to sabotage Tower 34 on the Nkalagu–Abakaliki 132kV line in Ebonyi State on July 19, 2025.
“The individual was electrocuted while trying to tamper with the high-voltage facility. His body has been recovered,” the statement confirmed.
The agency warned against the dangers of tampering with power installations, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities.
This incident underscores a growing trend of infrastructure vandalism. In January 2025, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed that over ₦9 billion was spent restoring vandalized infrastructure across northern Nigeria in 2024.
