The Taraba State University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has delivered a stern final warning to Governor Agbu Kefas. The union demands the immediate application of the 2025 federal agreement, threatening a strike if the state government continues to ignore its commitments.
Dr. Joshua Garba Mbaver, the chapter chairman, issued a statement on Wednesday characterizing the government’s inaction as a disregard for academic staff and a risk to the institution. The union stated that their patience has been exhausted by consistent failure to fulfill prior pledges.
Key grievances include the omission of the 2025 federal negotiated agreement, as well as the non-payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), the Professorial Allowance, and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA). ASUU noted that these demands have been previously documented and discussed, yet the government has responded with indifference.
According to the union, the 2025 agreement is vital for improving staff welfare, securing university funding, and revitalizing the education sector. They labeled the ongoing delays as unacceptable and damaging to the university’s longevity. ASUU emphasized that they are not seeking special favors but are simply requesting that the government uphold established labor agreements. If these issues remain unaddressed, the union has signaled that an indefinite industrial action will become inevitable.
