The Nigeria Police Force has officially opened its inaugural permanent state command headquarters in Taraba State, marking a significant milestone since the state was established in 1991. The facility, located in Yorro Local Government Area, ends 35 years of reliance on rented and temporary office spaces.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, represented by Taraba State Commissioner of Police Moorkwap Dongshal Sebastien, emphasized that the building will act as the primary nerve center for state security coordination. The project was realized through a collaboration between the police force, the federal government, and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, successfully closing a major infrastructure deficit.
Addressing the gathering, the IGP urged officers to maintain the new facility diligently. He also advocated for increased intelligence sharing among citizens, traditional leaders, and civil society to bolster crime prevention. Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to modernize security assets.
Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by retired CP Abeh Cyril, performed the official commissioning. The governor reiterated his administration’s focus on maintaining a safe environment, which he identified as a prerequisite for development. Additionally, a new divisional police headquarters in Pantinapo was inaugurated to enhance grassroots policing across the region.
