Taraba Community Warns of Imminent Attack by Armed Militants

The Ugondo Mdema Development Association warns of a potential militia attack in Tor-Damisa, Taraba State, prompting thousands to flee as security concerns escalate.

The Ugondo Mdema Development Association (UMDA) has issued an urgent warning regarding a projected assault on the Tor-Damisa community within the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State. Chairperson Joel Iorember announced on Sunday that locals are gripped by fear as intelligence reports indicate a strike by suspected Fulani militia is near. This threat has prompted an exodus of thousands of residents seeking refuge in nearby areas.

Iorember stated that the community has faced continuous agricultural disruption and violence in recent months, leaving several residents injured or killed. Furthermore, returning displaced persons have been driven out again by herders, causing significant humanitarian strain. Although authorities have been notified, the association claims that the cycle of aggression continues.

Reports indicate that the Nigerian Army recently discovered an armed camp at Tsav-Nomchongo village, seizing various weapons. Despite previous peace talks mediated by the state government between Tiv and Fulani leaders, tensions remain high. The association alleges that the upcoming attack is being justified by herders as retaliation for missing cattle. Iorember has urged Governor Agbu Kefas and security forces to intervene immediately to restore order and allow farmers to return to their lands.
