Swansea City has finalized the signing of free agent Ross Stewart following his departure from Southampton. The Scottish forward has committed to a three-year contract at the Swansea.com Stadium after leaving the Saints in June at the end of his previous deal.
Head coach Vitor Matos praised the acquisition, highlighting the 30-year-old as an experienced professional who is expected to serve as a key leader within the squad. Stewart, who represented Scotland at this summer’s World Cup, previously established a strong reputation at Sunderland before his move to the south coast. Last season, he contributed 11 goals in 33 matches despite enduring some fitness challenges.
The arrival of Stewart comes as Swansea navigates a busy transfer window, which has already seen the departure of Liam Cullen to Leicester City. While Stewart strengthens the attacking options, speculation continues regarding the future of Slovenian international Zan Vipotnik. Sporting director Ben Stevens expressed enthusiasm about the move, noting that Stewart’s proven ability in the Championship makes him a valuable addition to the team.
Stewart began his career in the Scottish lower leagues with Ardeer Thistle and Kilwinning Rangers before moving through the ranks at St Mirren, Alloa Athletic, and Ross County. His most prolific spell occurred at Sunderland, where he netted 40 goals in 81 appearances. He now joins a growing list of summer arrivals at Swansea, which includes Moussa Yeo, Elijah Just, Joseph Opoku, Stephen Welsh, and Leo Walta.
