Stokes and Atkinson cleared of violence following nightclub incident

Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson have been cleared of violent conduct by the ECB following a nightclub incident, though they received warnings for breaching team curfew.

An official investigation has determined that England cricketers Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were not responsible for any violent actions during a nightclub altercation in London. While both players were found to have violated team rules regarding a midnight curfew, they were officially cleared of any involvement in the physical confrontation.

The incident occurred two weeks ago while the team was celebrating a Test match win against New Zealand. Both men were sidelined for the second Test match while an inquiry was conducted. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) disciplinary panel concluded that the pair failed to uphold the high behavioral standards required by their contracts, resulting in formal written warnings.

Evidence reviewed by the ECB confirmed that Saracens rugby player Totoa Avuaa was the primary aggressor. The report stated that Avuaa attacked both the security staff member and Atkinson. Investigators noted that Stokes was not present for the conflict, and Atkinson did not retaliate when he was assaulted.

Following these findings, the Cricket Regulator determined that no further action is necessary against the players. Stokes has been reinstated as captain for the upcoming deciding Test match at Trent Bridge.
