Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has stated that he is not a registered voter in Osun State and holds no authority to influence the results of the upcoming gubernatorial election. This clarification follows remarks made by Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who characterized an appeal from musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, as emotional blackmail. Davido had previously urged Uzodimma to foster peace during the electoral process.
Davido, who is the nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, had reached out to Uzodimma in his capacity as the head of the Progressive Governors Forum and leader of the APC campaign council for the August 15, 2026, election. Uzodimma, through his spokesperson Oguwike Nwachuku, disavowed the comments made by Nwogwugwu, noting that he never authorized such a response. The Governor reaffirmed his affection for Davido, describing him as his son, and explained that the singer’s involvement in the APC campaign stems from party loyalty rather than his status as a voter.
Uzodimma emphasized that the APC remains dedicated to fair and peaceful elections. He argued that party members often participate in campaigns across different regions as part of standard democratic procedure, even if they are not eligible to vote in those specific contests. He urged the public to dismiss the statements made by Nwogwugwu as they were unauthorized personal opinions. Finally, the Governor reiterated his commitment to supporting the APC candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, while ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
