St. Kitts and Nevis has launched a mandatory biometric enrolment initiative to upgrade its national passport infrastructure. This move follows a global trend of strengthening travel document security to meet international standards and prevent identity fraud.
Every individual who obtained citizenship through the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship Programme, including dependants, must register their biometrics. This applies to both existing citizens and new applicants. The deadline to complete this transition is July 31, 2027, as non-biometric passports will lose their validity for international travel after this date.
The Ministry of National Security, Citizenship and Immigration introduced this program on April 14, 2026. Designated collection centres are now open in various global locations including London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Washington, DC. The process, which involves recording fingerprints, a digital signature, and a facial image, typically takes under half an hour.
Calvin St. Juste, Executive Chairman of the Citizenship Unit, stated that the initiative prioritizes data security and accessibility. The government maintains full control over all biometric data, which is stored in encrypted systems compliant with the International Civil Aviation Organization. Citizens must use the official government portal to complete the process, as third-party services are strictly prohibited.
This program does not alter an individual’s citizenship status. Once enrolled, the data remains valid for the life of the passport, and no additional biometric fees are required upon future renewals.
