Afrobeats artist Spyro has alleged that Nigeria’s religious leadership is gaining significant advantages from the nation’s ongoing economic distress and security challenges. During a discussion on Wazobia FM Lagos, the musician argued that many clerics remain silent on these critical issues because the worsening conditions of the country translate into personal financial gain.
The singer emphasized that religious heads have a moral obligation to advocate for the welfare of their followers and provide necessary guidance regarding elections. According to Spyro, sermons should actively address national insecurity and provide practical advice to citizens on how to stay safe. He expressed disappointment that these responsibilities are often neglected, asserting that as societal conditions deteriorate, the profit margins for many religious institutions tend to increase.
Spyro concluded by calling for greater accountability, insisting that both political and religious leaders must be held responsible for their actions and lack of advocacy.
