Sokoto Police neutralize gunman during repelled bandit raid

Police in Sokoto State thwarted a bandit attack in Wamako, killing one suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle after a fierce gun battle.

Law enforcement officials in Sokoto State successfully prevented a bandit raid on Daraye village, located in the Wamako Local Government Area. During the operation, authorities killed one suspected criminal and seized an AK-47 rifle along with live ammunition.

Security forces responded to the scene early Saturday morning following an emergency alert reporting an incursion by an armed group. The distress call reached authorities around 1:35 am on July 4, as noted by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ahmad Rufa’i.

Personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Village Crime Reduction Unit, and other tactical teams joined forces with the Wamako Divisional police to confront the intruders. A intense exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the police overwhelming the bandits, who eventually fled into nearby woods while suffering injuries.

Following a sweep of the area, officers discovered the body of one deceased suspect. They also secured an AK-47 rifle and a magazine holding 28 rounds of ammunition. To ensure community safety, the police have intensified patrols and alerted neighboring stations to watch for fleeing suspects seeking medical care.

Commissioner of Police Hayatu Hassan Shaffa commended the tactical team for their courage. He emphasized that the command will sustain its collaboration with security partners to neutralize criminal elements and restore stability to the region.
