Jigawa State Police have detained six people suspected of involvement in fraud and cybercrime, including a point-of-sale agent who allegedly used stolen National Identification Number data to access customer accounts. The command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed that these arrests occurred during multiple operations throughout the state.
In one case, officers from the Yankwashi division took Isa Ahmad and Sunusi Abdurrahman into custody. They are accused of swindling two victims out of ₦10.33 million by falsely claiming they could generate United States dollars. The suspects failed to provide the funds as promised, leading to their arrest and subsequent court appearance. The matter is now being processed by the judiciary.
Separately, Miga police arrested Ibrahim Haruna, a 21-year-old POS operator accused of unauthorized bank transfers. Investigators claim Haruna used a customer’s NIN to open fraudulent accounts and siphon ₦199,500. Evidence suggests at least 16 other bank accounts may have been compromised using this same technique. This suspect has also been arraigned.
Furthermore, authorities seized ₦50,000 in counterfeit bills during these investigations. The Commissioner of Police has advised the public to strictly protect their NIN and financial credentials to prevent falling prey to such criminal activities.
