Sheikh Gumi Advocates for State-Funded Marriages in Shariah-Compliant Regions

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi asserts that governments operating under Shariah law have a duty to use public funds to support marriages as part of their social responsibility.

Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi recently stated that governments in states adhering to Shariah law should utilize public funds to subsidize marriage. Through a Thursday update on his Facebook page, the cleric explained that authorities have a duty to resolve social challenges that emerge when sexual relations outside of wedlock are outlawed.

Gumi emphasized that providing financial assistance for matrimony is a core aspect of effective governance. This approach is particularly relevant in areas where religious and state laws strictly forbid adultery, fornication, and other forms of promiscuity.

The scholar suggested that taxpayer money could be allocated to assist youth seeking partners as well as women who struggle to find suitable spouses. Gumi concluded that such measures represent a responsible way to manage social stability for individuals who lack the personal resources to marry independently.
